When I see a developer struggling to move windows with their mouse, I'm amazed they haven't mastered Window Snapping yet. This feature allows quick side-by-side window views and seamless shifting between multiple monitors.
Windows has built-in sophisticated snap functions, while Mac offers limited snap functionality using the option key. For advanced Mac capabilities, consider purchasing a third-party app—many cost less than $20. With 4K screens now standard, working with pages side-by-side is essential for tasks like coding or writing.
Consider your workflow: if you’re writing an email, you might want your email app or Gmail on one side and a web browser on the other. Create a window group for this setup and use a hotkey or mouse gesture to quickly arrange your windows.
Virtual desktops are another great option, especially for laptop users. They simulate multiple physical monitors, allowing users to effortlessly switch between different workspaces.
Practice snapping windows and using virtual desktops to build muscle memory and integrate these tools into your workflow. This will enhance your productivity and streamline your tasks.

Window snapping has become a natural part of my flow. In my personal office, I have three 4K monitors. I'm constantly snapping windows out of the way or side-by-side, depending on my task. If you are not already doing this, take some time and practice. Soon you will not see how you lived without it!
Next time: hardware!
